How Long Do Police Officers Wear Black Band

The first time I installed Gentoo on this
little jewel goes back some time ago ... My life became a living hell that day, eventually discovering that the external CD player was on the balls of Acer home to almost every Linux distribution out there. But I'm stubborn, and I finally made a network installation, connect the laptop to the desktop computer on which ran the latest version of Knoppix ... I must say that at the end of the day I felt like Steve Wozniak to grips with his first computer (... but that's another story ...).
not happy to have wasted so much time in vain, I decided to finally put the penguin on the laptop, which ran on hard a tablet version of Windows XP. Now convinced that no distribution would have booted from the damn player, I feel the same shifting my attention to the lady of distributions on that distribution HUMAN compatible now on everyone's lips. So when you ask someone "what Linux distribution you have installed?", He replies "GNU?". So you see that you installed Ubuntu and you go merrily ...
For some strange reason my choice eventually always falls on the strange object incomprehensible to the "more" that is called Gentoo . I'll show you how easy install, especially on a laptop as my mangy. I will talk about in another post of the reasons that led me to use this distribution, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages. For the moment, worry about the installation, which can more generally be made on any PC other than my own.

Since my broadband connection allows me a download speed of 1100 KiB / s from the site of gentoo, I decide that I'm not going to wait 10 minutes, then drain the minimal version of 180 MiB in just 3 minutes. At the end I leave it to download LiveDVD version of 4 GiB (I'll explain later why).

With the release of Gentoo 2008.0 beta2 is no longer needed a network installation on my Acer C100. The player this time the perfect addition to the boot and we are left with a beautiful and welcoming the command prompt.

The installation steps

Here are the basic steps through which you can perform a full installation of Gentoo.

Network Setup Disk Partitioning

Copying files and Installing Portage

Configure and install the Linux kernel
  1. Install a bootloader
  2. System Configuration
  3. I remember very briefly when the topic is of general nature, as in the first two steps. Also pointed to the documentary section of the gentoo website, containing excellent guides for an initial installation, even in Italian.
